ACT Supervision

I provide supervision in ACT for individuals and groups. If you are looking to increase your competency in ACT, workshops and books are like toolboxes while supervision guides you to use the tools in your toolbox effectively.

I use SHAPE, an ACT based supervision approach and as part of that, am open about my supervision values:

  • Safety – I want you to feel safe with me, safe to be yourself, safe to try new things, and safe to stumble (or fall!)
  • Open – I am open to learning new things to share with you, and to learn from you too. I am also open to feedback all the time
  • Accepting – I accept you as a therapist and however you view yourself as one
  • Vulnerable – I am willing to be vulnerable as a person in front of you
  • Respectful – In line with Safety and Accepting above, I respect boundaries, decisions you make as a therapist in and outside of our sessions
  • Fun – I don’t think I do this enough, but I will try to make learning more fun instead of being serious all the time!

Supervision sessions with me will often include role-plays and real-plays – make space for that anxiety as it really is the best way to learn! The group supervision sessions are loosely based on the Portland Model where participants take turns to be therapists and be themselves as clients.

Group supervision structure:
30mins case discussion (participants to bring a client case)
30mins real-play session
30mins debrief and feedback of real-play session

Testimonials from supervisees:

I am very lucky to have been in Farah’s ACT group supervision ever since 2018. Initially the only psychiatrist in the group surrounded by other Mental Health Professionals, but Farah made me feel comfortable and belonged to the group from day one. Farah’s pace of teaching and supervision was very suited for both beginners and advanced level. Farah has the skill to identify the strength of each individual in the group and she polishes skills that needed more refinement. Most importantly she did this without making anyone feel awkward or uncomfortable. I joined her group as a beginner and was unsure of many things in ACT, next thing I know, I became very comfortable with using ACT as my main approach in psychotherapy. I was able to apply ACT with my own day-to-day life, in my clinical practice and in corporate trainings. Farah was able to answer the most basic questions to the most complicated issues I had in practicing ACT with clients. Farah’s approach to ACT group supervision gave us insight to applying ACT into our own life’s first and foremost. Thanks Farah! Very grateful for the ACT journey I had with you and the group!

Being in a supportive supervision setting has been a key in my growth as a person and as a clinical psychologist. As a supervisor, Farah has ensured that the supervision setting is a safe space for me to learn, make mistakes, and push my boundaries to put my Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) skills into practice. She has been an exceptionally encouraging supervisor, quick to pick up on areas that are in need of more improvement, and always willing to share her knowledge with all her supervisees through various means. Up-skilling and checking in on me from time to time has always been something Farah emphasises a lot. I am appreciative of her willingness to take initiatives and to go above and beyond in ensuring that I receive the necessary support and guidance throughout my journey in practicing ACT as my main therapeutic orientation.

If you would like to walk away from supervision feeling encouraged, confident, and clear about how you are going to take feedback into your therapy sessions without overthinking it, Farah is here to be that supervisor for you. She has a very steady compass and is clear in the values she brings to supervision. The space she creates during supervision has a sense of openness to accepting your personal take as a therapist and that sense of openness extends into our learning experience. Having personally taken a 180-degree career shift from an accountant to a therapist, supervision with Farah has really built my resources and has been integral to my transition into a competent therapist who looks forward to sessions and contributing to the mental health journey.

As an ACT Supervisor, Farah emphasizes more on experiential learning. This has made learning ACT to be easily relatable and practical to the extent you can feel and experience your own personal growth along the journey of learning ACT. A very resourceful supervisor who goes above and beyond to hone the ACT skills in others.

I have been joining Farah’s online group supervision since 2018. I like how Farah structured the 90-minute group supervision into “case discussion” and “role play”, it gives me a rich experience of case formulation and skills practice in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. To be honest, the role-play sessions that I did with other practitioners were “horrifying” and rewarding! (And if you are joining, nobody is going to escape from this, haha) I always appreciate the learning experiences and feedback from Farah after the sessions despite the overwhelming anxiety during the role-play. Farah is keen to learn and improve herself, and she will always keep you in mind when she has learned something new! Thus, you will always find her recommending books and training related to ACT to you.  If you are looking for a meaningful experience in pursuing the journey of ACT, I highly recommend you to join supervision with Farah.
– Mr. Gary Yap, Clinical Psychologist, Founder MY Psychology

Learning ACT from Farah in both ACT Introductory and Advanced Workshop  made me realize that I must continuously learn from her to deepen my knowledge in ACT.

Farah is so generous with her knowledge and skills in ACT. She ‘force’ us (my other peers in supervision group) to be willing to learn and make mistakes and that IS OK! She is sweet and funny to work with and I enjoy every training and supervision sessions with her.

Her OCD trait in making sure her classes and supervision session run smoothly mades all the pennies that I have spent are worth it! She makes difficult things easy to understand and she is willing to go extra miles to help us.

She is kind and consider us as her peers and willing to share abundance of ACT resources and always help to ensure we are updated with any new development on ACT.

Haisshhhh…

Lucky me to be part of her supervision group!

“I have been in the journey of learning about ACT since two years ago. From the introductory until the advanced training, and now, being supervised under Farah, it has been an excellent journey. I am glad that I have made the right choice. Farah has always been giving her best to share knowledge and updates on the trainings and resources available that might be helpful for our growth as an ACT therapist. Her supervision style is always so ACT-congruent and she is also passionate about expanding the ACT community in Malaysia. If you are looking forward to learn about ACT and be comfortable to use it in your clinical practice or even personal growth, Farah is definitely the qualified trainer that I would recommend!”
